Terms of use
GovTally is a free, non-commercial, public-interest reference that aggregates U.S. political data from government records and other public sources. By using the site you agree to the following. This is a plain-language summary of intended use, not legal advice.
What GovTally is
- A neutral, well-sourced catalog of officeholders and candidates — offices, votes, campaign finance, endorsements, and stated positions — where every fact links to its primary source.
- An aggregator. GovTally is independent and not affiliated with any government agency, campaign, party, or the data providers it cites.
Accuracy & “as-is”
- The data and any automated summaries/classifications are provided “as is,” without warranty of accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose.
- Source data can be incomplete, delayed, mislabeled, or wrong at the source, and our processing can introduce errors. Do not rely on GovTally as a sole source — verify anything important against the linked primary source. Nothing here is legal, financial, or voting advice.
Acceptable use
- You may read, search, link to, and cite GovTally, and quote facts with attribution to the underlying primary source.
- Do not harass individuals, scrape abusively (respect robots.txt and reasonable rate limits), misrepresent the data, or imply GovTally endorses any candidate, official, party, or position — it does not.
- Campaign-finance data carries a statutory limit: FEC contributor information may not be used to solicit contributions or for commercial purposes (52 U.S.C. §30111(a)). That restriction binds you as a user.
Data, licenses & attribution
Load-bearing data is CC0 / U.S.-government public domain; some sources carry attribution or non-commercial terms. Per-source licenses and required attributions are on the About & sources page. If you reuse data, honor the license of the original source.
Corrections & privacy
To report an error, see Corrections (we aim to acknowledge within one business day). GovTally is read-only, requires no account, and does not sell personal data; the people profiled are public figures and the information shown is drawn from public records about their public roles.
